CARDIAC EVENT MONITORS & HOLTER MONITORS:

Cardiac Event Monitors are a way to see the heart rhythm whenever symptoms like dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath, fainting spells or chest pain occur. When these symptoms happen, they usually don’t last very long. Therefore, as a patient reaches the doctor’s office, the irregular heartbeat that caused the symptoms have already returned to normal. We provide cardiac event monitors and Holter monitors to help providers monitor our patients’ heart rhythm and the corresponding symptoms that it causes. Depending on the type of monitor, a patient can either write down their symptoms or simply press the button on the device. The heartbeat the patient had at that moment will be recorded for the doctor’s analysis. Patients are also advised to write down or trigger the device every time they exercise, or engage in activities that elevate their heart rate. When the doctor analyzes the information, they will be able to correlate the heart rhythm with the patient’s activity at the time and help to track down what may have caused the symptoms. Holter monitors can be worn for 24 or 48 hours at a time, and cardiac event monitors can be worn for anywhere from 48 hours to 30 days.
